Part of a loutrophoros decorated in the red-figure technique. It was found in 1957 in the Sanctuary of the Nymphe in fragments and was reassembled.

It depicts a wedding scene in the women’s quarters. The dressed-up bride is sitting on a chair with her head lowered. Behind her a woman, perhaps her mother or the nympheutria bends over her protectively. Further behind, a young woman holds and decorates a loutrophoros-hydria with a white ribbon. The vase is filled with green branches symbolising prosperity and fertility in married life. Wedding scenes taking place in the women’s chambers always emphasise the care and tenderness relatives and close friends of the bride displayed towards her, in this crucial transition in her life.
